A new trail network for Boulevard Woods has been approved by Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department. (The trail was designed by Walt Cook, the indefatigable trailblazer who created Cook’s Trail along Sandy Creek among many other trails.)
Now, we need volunteer help to build the trails.
As a first step, what we need is a corps of folks willing to be trained in how to clear a trail corridor and to serve on a rotating basis over the coming weeks to supervise other volunteers in trail corridor work.
If you’re willing and able to serve as a supervisor, please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org and join us this Saturday, June 18, from 10 am to 12 noon at Boulevard Woods Park (298 Barber St.) for a training session.
Gary Crider, a longtime Boulevard Woods volunteer and supporter and a champion Weed Warrior, will be leading the training session. You’ll learn—with some hands-on practice–how to clear a trail corridor and how to identify and remove invasive plants.
Please wear close-toed shoes, long pants, long sleeves, garden gloves. Bring some insect repellent and a refillable water bottle. We’ll supply tools, water and snacks. Be ready to sign a volunteer waiver, too.
See you at Boulevard Woods on Saturday!
